Simulating complex systems such as cancer is often a great challenge despite large computational power of modern computers and, thus, implementation techniques are becoming as important as the models themselves. Simulations often need to be performed hundreds of times in order to estimate parameters during high-dimensional parameter sweeps, or to perform sensitivity analyses of the overall system dynamics. Speed of the code in such cases is everything.
After many years of dealing with mathematical/computer models of cancer I came to a conclusion that we researchers/modelers really need a place in which we could show tricks that we utilize in our codes to make them faster.
I hope that this blog will be a venue for exchange of our clever implementation techniques.
